A WORD OF THANKS
For the last 19 years the Achill Half Marathon has gone from strength to strength and, with the 20th installment now upon us, we are confident that all will run smoothly today. The marathon, however, does not just 'happen'; a huge amount of effort, energy and hard work goes in for months in advance to ensure that both participants and visitors alike have a memorable experience here on Achill Island.
It is important to acknowledge the significant contribution of the many people who have made this day possible; they are: the staff of Achill Tourism, who have worked numerous late evenings, early mornings and weekends; the Marathon sub-committee that has organised this year's event; and the board members of Corrymore Promotions.
We would like to express a special word of thanks to our most generous sponsors including Kenny Volvo, Mulranny Park Hotel, Óstán Oileán Acla, Sweeneys Supervalu Achill, The Mayo News, Mayo County Council, Water & Communities Officer for Mayo & North Roscommon, Mid West Radio. We owe a debt of gratitude to the following groups: our 200+ volunteers who will be doing untold work behind the scenes on the day; the local Gardai, especially Sgt. Brian Murphy; the Civil Defence; our local doctors; the landowners; and last but by no means least, the people of Achill for their warmth, generosity and support for the event.
