Runner's World Italia Lists Achill Half Marathon in 'Ten Dream Half Marathons in Europe'

The Achill Half Marathon has been included in a prestigious list of 'Ten Dream Half Marathons in Europe' in the Runner's World Italia magazine. The article, written by Alberto Rosa, lists Achill among venues including Paris, Berlin, Prague, Lisbon and Gothenburg. It is the only Irish half-marathon featured in the list, which also includes The Great North Run in Northumbia, and London's Royal Parks Half Marathon. Completing the list are two Spanish entries, Valencia, which attracts over 19,000 runners, and the beautiful island of Lanzarote which offers a winter run in 19 degrees of heat.

Runners visiting Achill for the Half Marathon & 10K event, which takes place on the first Saturday in July, can enjoy the raw beauty of this Atlantic island. Connected by a swing bridge, Achill is Ireland's largest island with a population of 2,500 rising to 10,000 in summer. Achill boasts five Blue Flag beaches, the highest sea cliffs in Europe, the iconic Keem Bay (#16 in Lonely Planet's Best Beaches in the World 2024), the haunting Deserted Village (an abandoned Famine era village), numberous castles and Megalithic sites, and was the prime location for filming of the movie 'The Banshees of Inisherin'. It is the perfect escape from the larger, urban runs in places like Paris, Berlin and Lisbon while offering a challenging course in a spectacular location.
