Achill Half Marathon & 10K

Welcome to the official website for the Achill Half Marathon & 10K Run. The rescheduled 2020 event takes place on Saturday 12th September on Achill Island, Co. Mayo, on Ireland's spectacular Wild Atlantic Way.

Owing to our ongoing plans regarding safety measures for the event our reduced capacities for this year's Half Marathon and for the 10K have now been filled.

We will be reviewing the guidelines as and when we receive them and only then will it be possible for us to allocate additional places in the races.

We are busy planning here and working to ensure that we can all enjoy what is always one of the highlights of the year here on Achill. This year's Achill Half Marathon & 10k will be an uplifting event and one for everyone involved in to look forward to!

As ever the safety of everyone concerned is paramount and with this in mind we will of course keep all participants informed of our plans for the race!

The Achill Half Marathon is normally the high point of the Summer Tourist season on Achill Island. 2020 is different in so many ways – this year the Achill Half Marathon and 10k becomes an Autumn festival for the first time in the history of the event. The organisers want this to be an uplifting occasion after what has been unprecedented times.

The welfare of the runners and volunteers remain a priority for the Achill Half Marathon Operations Team. The recent COVID 19 emergency is presenting challenges for all involved.

The team has now made to the decision to trigger the event contingency plan, on foot of the timetable announced under the Coronavirus COVID 19 National Program on May 2nd, 2020.

The Achill Half Marathon will now take place on September 12th, 2020.

Registration for new runners is now open.

If you are a registered runner for the postponed July event, the team has emailed you with more comprehensive information as to your next steps. (Please check sub email folders). If you didn't receive an email please contact us at

Please bear in mind that advance planning remains difficult for the remainder of 2020, as the information from the various regulatory bodies is constantly evolving. In anticipation of this, the AHM operations team is working with its partners to deliver an event which will accommodate social distancing protocols throughout the event.

We are delighted to share the news that the Achill Half Marathon & 10K has won two prestigous titles in the Run Ireland 'Best of 2018' Awards, as voted by participants. We won 'Best Half Marathon' and 'Most Scenic Route'. Thank You to all who voted, and to all our volunteers who make the event such a success.

Last year we eliminated approximately 12,500 single use plastic bottles by providing water in resuable cups at our Race HQ and in compostible cups in our six in-course water stations. We encourage all runners to bring their own (resuable) bottles for use before and after the race.
